Where Does PJ Fleck Stand Among Big 10 Coaches In October?

Where Does PJ Fleck Stand Among Big 10 Coaches In October?
Fact Checked by Nate Hamilton

Now that most of the September games have been played, the Big Ten West looks as bad as it has in years. An inexcusable loss for the Minnesota Golden Gophers against Northwestern put an exclamation mark on a bad month for the team that sits at 2-2 and needs a big turnaround in the month of October. Wisconsin, the Golden Gophers' toughest challenger in the division, has started to get its game back together, so Minnesota coach PJ Fleck will need to perform some of his best work to get his team back in contention.

Thankfully, Fleck has been strong in the month of October throughout his coaching career, putting up a 23-15 all-time record in the month. With this in mind, MinnesotaBets decided to use our Minnesota sports betting state of mind to see how the rest of the Big Ten coaches have fared in the month. We did so by using sports-reference.com to gather their all-time records for the month.

Fickell Among Top Coaches in October

To no one’s surprise, Ohio State’s Ryan Day ranks at the top with an undefeated mark in the month. Much to Minnesota fan’s dismay, Wisconsin coach Luke Fickell ranks second, followed by Jim Harbaugh and Fleck. With Wisconsin likely to perform well in October, Fleck will need to have his team keeping pace. A tough game against Michigan and Harbaugh gets them started in October, but two winnable games follow that, so Fleck has a chance to continue his winning ways in the month. The Golden Gophers don’t play Wisconsin until the end of November, so they won’t have to worry about facing Fickell and his strong October record until then.

With the conference so wide open this year, Minnesota needs to avoid any big collapses like they had against Northwestern so they can get to that game against Wisconsin and have it mean something. While Wisconsin is likely to take care of its business, Minnesota should also be well-positioned to bounce back, thanks to Fleck and his strong October track record. Betting on PJ Fleck will be an easy choice for those using the best Minnesota sportsbook apps once they eventually launch.
