Minnesota Twins’ Best Day Of The Week

Minnesota Twins’ Best Day Of The Week
Fact Checked by Jim Tomlin

Few MLB teams have had more regular-season success in recent years than the Minnesota Twins. They have reached the postseason five times since 2017, while winning 100 games in 2019 and 87 more a year ago. Too bad fans could not enjoy Minnesota sports betting alongside their Twins baseball.

The reigning American League Central champs finished 2023 at 87-75 (the worst record among MLB’s six division champions), then knocked off the Toronto Blue Jays in the AL Wild Card series for their first postseason advancement since 2002. Minnesota fell in the ALDS in four games against the Houston Astros to extend Minnesota’s championship drought to 33 seasons.

This year, oddsmakers from ESPN BET list the Twins’ preseason win total over/under at 86.5. The national operator has +4000 odds of the team capturing its first title since 1991. To get a sense of how Minnesota performed last year by day of the week, MinnesotaBets.com – where you can find the latest coverage of efforts to make Minnesota sportsbook apps legal – used BaseballReference.com statistics. We looked at the 2023 season to see which day of the week that the Minnesota Twins were at their best, and which was their worst day.

Twins’ Record By Day (2023)

Day of the Week Record Win Percentage
Monday 8-8 .500
Tuesday 12-13 .480
Wednesday 11-14 .440
Thursday 10-6 .625
Friday 18-8 .692
Saturday 15-12 .556
Sunday 13-14 .481

Which Day Of The Week Saw Minnesota Succeed?

One of the keys to the Twins winning the division was their work in the field; see our story about Minnesota Twins defense for proof.

Minnesota was .500 or better on four days of the week a season ago, according to Baseball-Reference.com stats. The best day for the Twins was Friday, when the team went 18-8 (a .692 winning percentage). The next best days for manager Rocco Baldelli’s club were Thursday (10-6 record, .625 winning percentage) and Saturday (15-12, .556).

Conversely, the Twins’ worst day of the week a year ago was Wednesday. Minnesota posted an 11-14 mark on Hump Day in 2023, a .440 winning percentage. Tuesday (12-13, .480) and Sunday (13-14, .481) were only a bit better. So in general, games later in the week worked in Minnesota’s favor; those elsewhere using Caesars Sportsbook and other top operators could perhaps see if that trend continues in 2024.

Minnesota was exactly .500 on Mondays in 2023, with an 8-8 record, showing once and for all that not everyone loathes the first day of the work week in the Land of 10,000 Lakes.

Minnesota Twins 2024 Season

This year, Minnesota begins its AL Central title chase on March 28 against the Kansas City Royals in the first of a three-game series to begin the regular season. That series features three matinee contests, with first pitch times of 2:10 p.m. and 12:10 p.m. Central, respectively.

Based on last year’s day-by-day results, it seems like Twins fans should expect Minnesota to do just fine in Games 1 and 2, as those will be on Thursday and Saturday, though the series finale on Sunday afternoon could be a bit of a tossup, based on the franchise’s .481 win percentage on the final day of the week last year.
